The Aeros have won all 10 games
against Erie at Canal Park this year and 19 straight at home dating back to May
25, 2009. Over that stretch, Akron has outscored the SeaWolves 135-38.

Aerodynamics…

Goose
eggs recalled… The
Aeros shutout Erie for the second time in this four-game series with a 9-0
decision. The Aeros struck first when designated hitter Jerad Head hit in
center fielder Jordan Henry on a bases-loaded fielder’s choice in which the
SeaWolves attempted to turn a double play in the first inning. Right fielder
John Drennen eventually took advantage with an RBI-single to right field that
scored second baseman Jason Kipnis. Head faced another bases-loaded opportunity
in the second and he promptly delivered with a two-RBI double down the left
field line that scored shortstop Cristo Arnal and Henry. First baseman Beau
Mills followed with a two-RBI single that scored third baseman Lonnie
Chisenhall and Head for a 6-0 lead. Head added his fourth RBI of the night in
the fourth with a sacrifice fly that brought in Kipnis. The Aeros scored
insurance runs in the seventh and eighth to cement the win.

EL
Shutouts… Akron
has shut out Erie three times this season, and is tied with Trenton with the
most shutouts in the league with 12. The Aeros are 12-4 in shutout games this
year while the Thunder holds a 12-5 record in shutout games.

Happy
Birthday… Left-handed
starter Matt Packer celebrated his 23^rd birthday in style as he shut
out the SeaWolves and struck out eight batters, the most he has had with the
Aeros, through six innings of work. The Germantown, Tenn. earned his first
Double-A win and improved to 1-2. Erie starter Jon Kibler (5-5) took the loss
after he gave up seven runs on seven hits with six walks and two strikeouts in
four innings.

Head scalps Erie… Outfielder Jerad Head continues to be successful against the
SeaWolves as he recorded his 10^th multi-RBI game of the season with
the Aeros Saturday as he hit in four runners. It’s the second time the Topeka,
Kan. native has batted in four runs this year. Head has the highest batting
average (.425) and the most RBI (13) of any current Aeros player against Erie.

Duplicating Drennen… Outfielder John Drennen has went 2-4 with a double in each of the
past four games. The San Diego native has hit in six RBI and scored three runs
during that stretch.

Post-season
setting up… Akron
improved their playoff chances as they gained a game on current Western
Division wild card leader Harrisburg with the Senators 2-1 loss to Trenton, as
well as third-place Bowie as they fell 6-5 to New Britain. The Aeros are now
2.5 games back of the wild card lead with nine games remaining. Altoona
defeated Richmond Saturday night meaning they stay 10 games in front of Akron,
thus eliminating them from winning the regular season division title. Trenton
and New Hampshire both have clinched playoff spots in the east. If the Aeros
win the wild card, they will play the Western Division champions on September 8
and 9 before returning to Canal Park on Friday, Sept. 10. If necessary, Game 4
will be in Akron on Saturday, Sept. 11 and Game 5 will be on the road on
Sunday, Sept. 12.

The Aeros’ 12 wins against Erie
are the most they’ve had against any Eastern League team this season. Their
.750 winning percentage is the second highest behind New Britain (.833).

Aerodynamics…

Walking
home… The Aeros
pulled away from Erie in the second half of the game to defeat the SeaWolves
5-2. A scoreless tie was broken in the bottom of the fifth inning when the
Aeros rallied with two outs to score a pair of runs. After catcher Juan Apodaca
and shortstop Cristo Arnal both hit singles, center fielder Jordan Henry walked
to load the bases. Second baseman Jason Kipnis also walked to force in the
first run. Arnal scored soon after on a wild pitch by Brayan Villarreal to give
Akron a 2-0 lead. Erie answered in the sixth when Brandon Douglas scored from
third when Bryan Pounds grounded out unassisted to first with one out. Akron
cushioned their lead on a second bases loaded walk when third baseman Lonnie
Chisenhall took a base on balls to force in Arnal in the seventh. Designated
hitter Jerad Head proceeded to hit a double to left center field that scored
Henry and Kipnis. Erie struck back in the eighth after Rawley Bishop hit an
RBI-single, but could not take advantage and left the bases loaded as Akron won
5-2.

Mission
statement… Right
handed starter Corey Kluber earned the win to even out his record at 2-2. The
Coppell, Texas native allowed one run on eight hits. Kluber struck-out five
SeaWolves against one walk over seven innings of work. He now has 157 combined
strikeouts on the year with 136 during his time with the Double A Texas League
San Antonio Missions. That currently tops the list for most in Double A this
season, 14 better than Harrisburg’s Tom Milone, and sixth in all of minor
league baseball.

Save
me… Reliever
Omar Aguilar recorded his seventh save of the season after he came on in the
ninth to secure the win. The Merced, Calif. native is currently fourth in the
Eastern League in the category of highest strikeouts per nine innings pitched
ratio for relievers at 10.53 with 69 strikeouts over 59 innings pitched.

Here’s
Johnny… Outfielder
John Drennen has gone 2-for-4 in each of his past three games against Erie and
Bowie. The San Diego, Calif. native now has a team-high 36 multi-hit games,
four ahead of fellow outfielder Tim Fedroff. Drennen currently has a batting
average of .304, third in the Eastern League behind Bowie’s Ryan Adams (.305)
and Reading’s Tagg Bozied (.318).

Tick
tock… Akron
remains 3.5 games behind Harrisburg for the Western Division wild card. Bowie
also remains ahead of the Aeros as the Baysox trail the Senators by 1.5 games.
The defending Eastern League champions’ elimination number now stands at eight.
That number will go down by one anytime the Aeros lose or the wild card leader
wins.

Spirit
fingers… On
Saturday, the first 1,000 fans will receive a foam finger giveaway sponsored by

The
Aeros winning percentage in shutout games is .733, currently the best in the
Eastern League. Akron has played in 15 shutout games and has won 11, second
most in the league.

Aerodynamics…

Goose egg… The Aeros defeated Erie by a
12-0 count Thursday for their 11^th shutout of the season. Akron
jumped out to 6-0 lead thanks to home runs by third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall,
right fielder John Drennen, and left fielder Tim Fedroff, and alert base
running by second baseman Jason Kipnis who came in from second after a throwing
error. Akron poured on the runs in the seventh in a rally started by designated
hitter Jerad Head when he hit an RBI single up the middle to score center
fielder Jordan Henry from second. Mills then walked to load the bases to set up
Perez. The Caracas, Venezuela native singled to score Kipnis, but an error on
Erie’s left fielder Brandon Jones allowed Head to come home. Drennen made it
11-0 with a deep double to left-center field that brought home Mills and Perez.
Erie hurt itself again when Pounds threw the ball wide of first base and
Drennen advanced home from second to make it 12-0. SeaWolves starter Anthony
Shawler took the loss and is now 4-3.

White’s out… Right-handed starter Alex
White had a fantastic outing as he improved to 8-7 with three hits, five
strikeouts and one walk. He threw seven shutout innings, matching his longest
outing of the season. The former Tar Heel has a team leading 12 quality starts
of fewer than three earned runs in at least six innings pitched. Relievers Nick
Hagadone and Rob Bryson came in and pitched an inning each with Bryson giving
up the only other hit of the game.

Lunar Lonnie… With Chisenhall’s home run
in the first inning Thursday, The Newport, N.C. native now has 17 round trips
and has tied current Columbus Clipper Matt McBride for the most by any Aeros
player this season. It is Chisenhall’s second home run of the week after
hitting one on Tuesday in Bowie.

Taking advantage… The Aeros have scored
four runs in the past three games on plays where opponents have made an error.
Akron’s opponents in the past three games have committed a total of nine
errors, the most over any three-game stretch this season.

No love…The Aeros didn’t receive any help
tonight in the Western Division wild card race as Bowie came back to defeat New
Britain and Harrisburg defeated Trenton. Akron remains 3.5 games back of the
second-place Senators, but now has an elimination number in single digits at
nine with 11 games to play.

Number one fireworks… The final fireworks
show of the season will follow Friday’s game against Erie and will be sponsored

The Aeros won their third consecutive game with an impressive 12-0 shutout
against Erie. Akron gave up only four hits on the evening in front of 7,765
fans at Canal Park while improving to 67-64 as the last-place SeaWolves dropped
to 59-72.

Akron
jumped out to an early lead with third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall’s two-out solo
home run in the first inning. The Newport, N.C. native now has 17 round trips
and has tied current Columbus Clipper Matt McBride for the most by any Aeros
player this season.

Recap 08/15: Aeros Complete Sweep with 7-0 Win

AKRON,
OH – The Aeros completed a three-game series sweep of the New Britain Rock Cats
with a 7-0 victory Sunday afternoon in front of 3,359 fans at Canal Park. Akron
recorded another 11 hits in the contest highlighted by a two-run homer from
second baseman Jason Kipnis. With the victory, the Aeros now sport a 62-57
record and trail the wild card-leading Bowie Baysox by 1.5 games while New
Britain fell to 34-87

The
scoring began in the first inning as center fielder Jordan Henry led off with a
single to right. Kipnis followed with a two-run shot off the Miller Lite sign
in center field, and left fielder Tim Fedroff recorded another RBI with a
triple in the second.

In
the fourth inning, third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall continued his impressive series
against New Britain with a two-run single to extend the lead to 5-0. The Aeros
added their final runs with one out in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly
from first baseman Beau Mills and a run-scoring single from right fielder John
Drennen.

Akron
starting pitcher Corey Kluber (1-2) delivered six shutout innings to earn his
first win in the Cleveland Indians organization. He allowed just six hits and
one walk while striking out four batters in his third start since joining the
team following a three-team trade that also that sent Jake Westbrook to St.
Louis. New Britain’s Bobby Lanigan (2-2) took the loss after allowing five runs
on eight hits in five innings pitched and Aeros relievers Connor Graham and
Omar Aguilar provided three more shutout frames.

The
home run from Kipnis was his 9^th in Double-A and he finished 2-for-2
at the plate with two walks, two runs scored and two RBI. Henry, Chisenhall and
Drennen all finished with a pair of hits as well and the Aeros finished with 48
hits in the three-game series.

Akron has an off day on Monday before traveling to Reading for a
doubleheader that includes the completion of a suspended game from July 25^th
and an originally scheduled game that has been shortened to seven innings. They
will pick up action at 6:05 p.m. in the bottom of the fourth inning with the
scored tied 5-5. The pitchers in the opener have not been announced while Aeros
left-hander Matt Packer (0-0, 0.64 ERA) will start against R-Phils righty J.C.

Recap 08/14: Aeros Collect 20 Hits, Win 12-2 Saturday

AKRON,
OH – The Aeros recorded a season-high 20 hits during their 12-2 triumph over the
New Britain Rock Cats Saturday evening before a crowd of 3,847 fans at Canal
Park. Akron scored early and often with nine runs through the first three
innings en route to a third straight victory, a second straight over the Rock
Cats. The game began after a 59-minute rain delay as the Aeros improved to
61-57 and New Britain dropped to 34-86.

Akron’s
scoring began quickly against Rock Cats starter Cole DeVries as third baseman
Lonnie Chisenhall singled with two outs in the first. First baseman Beau Mills
followed with an RBI double and right fielder John Drennen extended the lead to
2-0 a single to right.

The
blowout continued in the second as catcher Juan Apodaca drew a one-out walk and
designated hitter Cristo Arnal singled. An error later scored Apodaca before
Chisenhall gave the Aeros a six-run advantage with a three-run home run to the
bullpen in right.

After
a strikeout began the third inning, Akron rallied with five consecutive singles
including RBI hits from center fielder Jordan Henry and second baseman Jason
Kipnis. Chisenhall followed again to extend the edge to 9-0 with a sacrifice
fly to center.

Henry
singled to start a fifth inning burst and Kipnis walked against reliever Mike
McCardell. Yet again, Chisenhall drove home the run with a single before New
Britain finally scored in the top of the sixth. Starter Alex White permitted a
sacrifice fly in that frame and reliever Bryan Price then allowed an RBI single
to Mark Dolenc in the seventh.

The
top of the Aeros order sparked the final scoring of the night against McCardell
in the seventh. Henry walked, pinch-hitter Justin Toole singled and another
error gave Akron an 11-2 lead. Mills then recorded an RBI with a groundout to
first to provide for the last run.

The
right-hander White (7-6) was solid on the mound in earning the win with six
efficient innings in his team-leading 11^th quality start. He allowed
just one run on three hits with three strikeouts, recording a career-high 13
groundball outs. DeVries (1-5) took the loss in the spot-start, permitting nine
runs (five earned) on 11 hits in his three frames.

Every
Aeros batter recorded at least one hit in the game for the second straight game
against the Rock Cats. In fact, everyone but Kipnis and Toole finished with two
base hits in the game highlighted by a career performance from Chisenhall. He
finished 3-for-4 at the plate with his 15^th home run and set a new personal
Double-A high with five RBI.

Akron’s
weeklong home ends Sunday against New Britain at 1:35 p.m. for a Family Fun Day
at Canal Park. The Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens sponsors
tomorrow’s Family Packs, a special offer of four tickets, four hot dogs, four

bases after the game.

Recap 08/11: R-Phils Hold On For 7-6 Victory over Aeros

AKRON,
OH – The visiting Reading Phillies scored seven runs in a chaotic second inning
and survived a vicious Aeros comeback for a 7-6 win at Canal Park Wednesday
night. Cleveland Indians starter Anthony Reyes walked the first five batters in
that second in his new rehab assignment as the Phillies won despite being
out-hit 10 to four. Reading improved to 57-58 while the Aeros fell to 58-57 on
the season, still trailing the second-place Bowie Baysox by 4.5 games in the
Western Division wild card race.

Reyes
retired the side in the top of the first, only needing 11 pitches before
struggling with his control in the second. The first five batters of that frame
walked and Reyes threw three wild pitches to provide for a quick 2-0 deficit.
Freddy Galvis then recorded an RBI single and Michael Spidale drew another free
pass to knock the Akron starter out of the game.

Left-hander
Matt Packer relieved Reyes and allowed all three inherited runners to score on
a sacrifice fly, a wild pitch and a run-scoring double. That would be all the
damage done against Packer and the Aeros offense responded in the bottom of
that second.

Shortstop
Carlos Rivero smashed a two-run home run to left field to score right fielder John
Drennen and left fielder Tim Fedroff followed with a single to center. After
two more walks by Reading starter J.C. Ramirez and a groundout, second baseman
Jason Kipnis lofted a ground-rule double over the left field wall to cut the
margin to 7-4.

Drennen
again singled against Ramirez to start the third and two straight fly outs
followed that nearly ended the rally. Catcher Juan Apodaca then smashed a 1-1
offering into the canal in left for a two-run homer of his own to bring the
deficit to just a single run.

That
would be all of the scoring on the night as both bullpens dominated for the
remaining six innings. Akron stranded a pair of runners in the sixth and a
failed double steal turned into a strikeout-caught stealing double play to end
the bottom of the seventh inning.

Phillies
reliever Chance Chapman (2-2) replaced Ramirez and provided 2.2 scoreless
innings to earn the victory. Reyes (0-2) took the loss in allowing seven runs
in one plus inning with six walks and a hit, raising his ERA to 25.41 in his
three appearances for the Aeros this season. Packer then dominated in relief,
shutting Reading out for seven frames to and he still leads full-season MiLB
with a 1.48 ERA this year.

Drennen
finished 3-for-5 with a double while Rivero’s home run was his fifth of the
season. Apodaca starred in collecting his third homer in the Eastern League in
2010, his first in Akron, along with a walk and several impressive plays behind
the plate.

Reading
aims for the three-game series sweep in the finale Thursday night at 7:05 p.m.
at Canal Park against the Aeros. It is another Thirsty Thursday at the stadium
with fans able to enjoy $1 12-oz. soft drinks and draft beer through the end of
the seventh inning. There
will also be a special guest appearance and autographs at the game from NABA
U.S Heavyweight Champion and Akron’s own Nick “The Stoneman” Firtha.

� Rock and Roll… The New Britain Rock Cats avoided a three-game series weep with an 11-3 victory over the Aeros Sunday afternoon at New Britain Stadium. Starting pitcher Alex White struggled in the game but Akron actually scored first on a sacrifice fly by third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall in the third inning. The Rock Cats responded with a solo home run in the bottom of the third by Joe Benson followed by a three-run shot from Erik Lis. Doubles from designated hitter Tim Fedroff and catcher Miguel Perez cut the deficit to 4-2 and right fielder John Drennen added a solo homer of his own in the sixth. New Britain then cruised to control the game after that, scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth and three more in the seventh to provide for the final margin. Starter Kyle Gibson (7-5) earned the victory with his 5.2 innings pitched while White (6-6) took his second straight loss.

� Battle Tested… Sunday’s rough start was arguably the worst in the brief Double-A career of the Akron ace White. He pitched just five plus innings and allowed seven runs on eight hits with two walks and two home runs. It finished a road trip where he also took the loss in the opener of last Tuesday’s doubleheader at Altoona. In his past three games (two starts), Cleveland’s first-round pick in the June 2009 Draft now has a 7.04 ERA with 22 hits and 16 runs (12 earned) allowed in only 15.1 innings.

� Fiery Fedroff… Although the Akron offense has struggled recently, Fedroff has been one of the best contributors over the past two months. He finished 2-for-4 offensively Sunday afternoon with a double, and despite missing a week at the end of last month, he is now batting .396 (38-for-96) with hits in all but three of his past 25 games since June 29th. Fedroff played at the University of North Carolina along with White before he was selected by the Indians in the seventh round of the June 2009 Draft.

� Weekly Wonder… The Aeros awarded left-handed starter Scott Barnes as this week’s Akron Aeros Player of the Week. Barnes delivered seven shutout innings in Friday’s 2-1 victory over New Britain, recording eight strikeouts against just two hits and four base runners total. He made the start at New Britain Stadium, only 45 minutes away from his hometown of Chicopee, MA and it was the 22-year-old’s fifth scoreless outing of at least five innings out of his team-leading 21 starts this year.

� Rubber City Reset… Tonight marks the beginning of a six-game weeklong home stand at Canal Park, the longest remaining stretch in Ohio this season. Akron hosts the Reading Phillies for three games through Thursday before playing the Rock Cats again over the weekend. The Aeros then travel to Reading Monday for another series, completing a stretch of 14 meetings in 29 days.

� Did You Know… Only 10 players from Akron’s opening day roster of 24 men remain on the team entering this week. Nine of the remaining players are with Class AAA Columbus, two are with Class A Kinston and three are no longer in the organization.

Recap 08/08: New Britain Avoids Sweep, Rocks Akron 11-3

NEW
BRITAIN, CT – Aeros ace Alex White struggled again Sunday as the New Britain
Rock Cats salvaged a win to end this three-game series with a dominant 11-3
victory. White permitted seven runs in five plus innings on the day as the
hosts provided plenty of run support in front of another impressive crowd of
5,426 fans at New Britain Stadium. The last-place Rock Cats of the Eastern
Division improved to 34-81, and with the loss, the Aeros finished 2-5 on this
weeklong road trip and now have a 58-55 record on the season.

White
avoided damage through the first two frames before his offense took the lead in
the third. A sacrifice bunt from Akron center fielder Jordan Henry advanced
Miguel Perez and Lucas Montero advanced runners to third and second base,
respectively. Third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall followed two batters later with a
sacrifice fly to left.

The
Rock Cats responded swiftly as Joe Benson belted a solo one-out homer in the
bottom of the third to tie the score at 1-1. After a walk and a double, Erik
Lis hit a home run for the second straight night, this blast coming in the
three-run variety.

Back-to-back
doubles from designated hitter Tim Fedroff and Perez cut the deficit to 4-2 in
the fourth before White cruised through another two more innings. The Aeros
added another score in the top of the sixth as right fielder John Drennen led
off with a homer.

New
Britain then rallied in the sixth, starting the frame with a single, an RBI
double and a walk before Connor Graham entered the game in relief. He promptly
permitted three more runs, two via run-scoring groundouts, and the blowout
continued in the seventh inning. New reliever Bryan Price allowed a solo homer
to Juan Portes as a wild pitch and another groundout provided for the final
margin of the night.

Kyle
Gibson (7-5) earned the victory for the Rock Cats in scattering three runs on
seven hits through his 5.2 innings pitched. White (6-6) failed to survive the
sixth frame, permitting eight hits, two walks and two home runs in his worst
Double-A start of the season. The 21-year-old has now allowed at least four
runs in each of his past three outings (7.04 ERA).

Akron
finished with nine hits in the game, led by an impressive outing from the
bottom half of the lineup. Drennen was 2-for-4 with his fifth homer of the
season while the final three batters, Fedroff, Perez and Montero, all collected
two hits as well.

The
Aeros thankfully return home to Ohio tonight and will begin another weeklong
home stand, the longest remaining of the season, Tuesday night against the
Reading Phillies. It is a Two for Tuesday at Canal Park starting at 7:05 p.m.
and fans can enjoy buy one, get one free specials on tickets, hot dogs, ice
cream, popcorn and soft drinks.

Recently
acquired right-hander Corey Kluber (0-1, 6.75 ERA) will make his second start

? Rock the Boat… The Aeros claimed victory in a slugfest Saturday night, earning a 10-6 victory over the host New Britain Rock Cats at New Britain Stadium. The game started off in a back-and-forth contest with an RBI single by shortstop Carlos Rivero giving Akron a 1-0 lead in the second. In the third inning against new Aeros starter T.J. McFarland, Rock Cats slugger Erik Lis then smashed a two-run homer to right and a double-steal, double-error scored two more. The visitors regained a 6-4 advantage in the third thanks to two-RBI singles from second baseman Jason Kipnis and right fielder John Drennen. New Britain tied the game later that inning but designated hitter Tim Fedroff scored on a wild pitch in the fourth to give Akron the lead for good. Lonnie Chisenhall then collected two solo home runs in the final three frames to provide for the final margin as reliever Steven Wright (1-1) earned the win with two shutout frames and Rock Cats starter Deolis Guerra (2-8) struggled in taking the loss.

? Double Trouble… The left-hander McFarland avoided the decision but also had difficulties Saturday night in the close win over New Britain. He allowed six runs (five earned) on nine hits with two walks and five strikeouts in four innings, leaving right after the Aeros regained the lead. The 21-year-old earned the promotion from Class A Kinston to Double-A earlier in the day, and at the time of his promotion, led the Carolina League with 10 wins while posting a 2.81 ERA in 20 games (15 starts). Cleveland selected McFarland in the fourth round of the June 2007 Draft out of Amos Alonso Stagg High School (IL).

? Wright on Time… Akron’s bullpen Saturday as three relievers combined to deliver five shutout innings with only one hit. The winning pitcher Wright started with three strikeouts and only one walk in his three frames before Bryan Price followed with two more frames to hold the lead. Closer Omar Aguilar then finished the game with a perfect ninth inning with a strikeout and overall, the Aeros bullpen has a 3.28 ERA this season and a sparkling 2.26 ERA in the past 44 games since June 20th.

? Slugger Surprise… Chisenhall blasted out of a slump late in the game Saturday night to protect the narrow Akron lead. The 21-year-old third baseman finished 3-for-5 with two home runs and three runs scored for his second multi-homer game in Double-A. He entered the game batting just 1-for-19 during this road trip and now leads the team with 63 runs this season.

? Catching On… After being acquired Thursday, catcher Juan Apodaca has quickly adapted to the Aeros squad. He collected two singles and two walks in helping the offensive explosion Saturday, now reaching base in six of his first eight plate appearances.

? Broomsticks… Akron hopes to finish a quick three-game sweep at New Britain Stadium this afternoon to conclude this weeklong road trip. The team returns home Tuesday for six games at Canal Park against Reading again followed by the Rock Cats.

The Akron Aeros are second in the Eastern League with a .271 batting average and fifth with a 3.95 ERA, joining first-place Altoona as the only teams to rank top five in both this year.
