Pitcher
Steven Wright is the winner of this week’s Akron Aeros Player of the Week
award, the team announced today. Wright made a spot start and made a relief
appearance in the last week.

Wright
went 1-1 on the week, though the loss was undeserved. Wright took the loss in
his first start since May 29 on Saturday night against Erie. He was magnificent
over five innings, giving up one run on five hits with five strikeouts against
one walk, ending up on the wrong end of a 1-0 defeat. His win came in a 10-4
Aeros victory in a relief appearance against Trenton on August 31. Wright gave
up no runs on four hits and three strikeouts in three innings.

The Akron Aeros have awarded their Player of the Week honor to an individual
player every Monday throughout the bulk of the 2010 season. Akron starter Matt Packer
won the award last week, and Wright is the ninth different player to win the
award in the past 11 weeks. This week, the separate Eastern League
Player-Pitcher of the Week Awards went to New Britain’s Joe Benson and
Portland’s Stephen Fife, respectively.

The
Aeros will now turn the page and look ahead to the 2011 season. On behalf of
everyone associated with the Aeros, our deepest and most genuine thanks to all
our fans, sponsors and media partners for a wonderful 2010 season, and a happy
off-season to all. Opening Day 2011 is slated for Thursday, April 7th at 7:05
p.m. at Canal Park against the Binghamton Mets. Starters have not yet been
announced for that contest. Thanks again from everyone at the Akron Aeros. For
more information, please call the Aeros at (330) 253-5151.
